The Southeastern Neuroradiological Society was originated and founded by Barry Gerald in May, 1977 in Memphis, Tennessee. The first organizational meeting was held in November, 1977 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The purpose of the Society was to promote a closer fellowship and exchange of ideas among neuroradiologists.

The Southeastern Neuroradiological Society was first incorporated in the State of Louisiana on October 13, 1978 and then reincorporated in the State of Florida on January 25, 1983.

Membership in the Society is by invitation only. Candidates must reside in the Southeastern United Stated and must be board-certified radiologists or possess a specialty qualification in Radiology which is an acceptable equivalent in the opinion of the Society. The member shall at all times devote not less than one-half of his/her time to the professional practice of Neuroradiology, each member shall have completed at least one year in an approved neuroradiology fellowship, and two sponsoring letters from practicing Senior Members of the ASNR or members of the SENRS will be required. Senior members of the ASNR are automatically entitled to apply for membership. Notwithstanding the above qualifications, the Society may offer membership to any person who, in the opinion of the Society, possesses great merit, or has made outstanding contributions to Neuroradiology and/or the Society. An Active Member must reside and practice within the geographic limits of the Society. An Associate Member is one who subsequently relocates and practices outside the geographic limits of the Society. The Associate Member will have all the privileges of a member except for the right to vote or hold office. He or she will be required to meet all membership qualifications and will pay 50% of the annual dues. An Emeritus Member is a previous SENRS member who is no longer engaged in the active practice of Radiology.
