The MRI findings of NBD are distinct, which may help to differentiate it from other disorders of the nervous system even in the absence of overt systemic manifestations. Stereotyped distribution of the lesions within the brain parenchyma, high signal intensity along the posterior limb of internal capsule and fiber tracts, and atrophy of the brain stem are characteristic of NBD. Vascular NBD should be considered with dural venous sinus thrombosis.
