“Brain Tumor Imaging, Volume 2: Posttherapy” is the latest Special Collection from the American Journal of Neuroradiology. Collection Editor Soonmee Cha of the University of California, San Francisco said that in reading more than 100 AJNR studies and review articles while preparing this new volume, she came to realize “the distinction between active tumor and treatment effect remains difficult, at times impossible, despite the progress made in imaging technology over the past few decades.” Dr. Cha explained, “As therapy becomes more complex and sophisticated, the resultant dynamic changes in tumor biology and brain injury become challenging moving targets in the attempt by imaging methods to capture their underlying pathophysiology.”
In an accompanying podcast, Dr. Cha and AJNR’s Podcast Editor C. Douglas Phillips discuss the role of advanced diagnostic imaging techniques in assessing brain tumors in patients who have undergone chemotherapy and radiation. This special podcast, along with one produced earlier this year to coincide with the previous volume, are posted along with Dr. Phillips’ regular summaries of each issue’s highlights and are available to download on the AJNR Website and in the iTunes Store.
Distilling the best of the many articles related to brain tumor imaging that appear in the pages of AJNR for these two Special Collections posed a daunting task, but Editor-in-Chief Mauricio Castillo knew that Dr. Cha would be successful. “Dr. Cha is a respected investigator, a contributor of high quality and clinically relevant articles to AJNR and other journals, and a member of our Editorial Board,” he said.
AJNR’s Special Collections are intended to provide a comprehensive source of imaging-related articles on a single topic and are released biannually on an open-access basis. Previous Collections include “Imaging Acute Stroke and its Consequences” edited by Pamela W. Schaefer and R. Gilberto González, “Acute Stroke Intervention” edited by Colin P. Derdeyn and Avi Mazumdar, “Percutaneous Vertebroplasty” edited by Mary E. Jensen and Joshua A. Hirsch, “Radiation Dose in Neuroradiology CT Protocols” edited by Max Wintermark and Michael H. Lev, and Brain Tumor Imaging, Volume 1: Pretherapy, also edited by Dr. Cha. All are available through AJNR’s print-on-demand service (Brightdoc), where readers can order a full-color hard copy for just US $50.00, plus shipping.
