Quick Facts about ASNR

The American Society of Neuroradiology…            back to top

  • was founded in 1962;

  • grown from 14 members in 1962 to over 3,000;

  • sponsors and accreditsan Annual Meeting featuring the presentation of scientific papers and posters, seminars, workshops, symposia, scientific exhibits, computer-assisted exhibits, “How-To Sessions,” and technical exhibits;

  • collaborates with its four allied specialty societies to cover all aspects of Neuroradiology at the Annual Meeting, including Functional Neuroradiology, Head and Neck Radiology, Interventional Neuroradiology, Pediatric Neuroradiology, and Spine Radiology;

  • with industry partners to further the Society’s educational and research goals;

  • offers a forum for publication of scientific work through peer-reviewed journal, the American Journal of Neuroradiology (AJNR);

  • promotes and provides funding for education and research in Neuroradiology through support of the Neuroradiology Education and Research (NER) Foundation;

  • represents the socioeconomic interests of members through Clinical Practice Committee and subcommittees, representation in the AMA House of Delegates, involvement in committees and commissions of the ACR and AHA, and active involvement in CMS coding and reimbursement issues;

  • promotes networking through Society website www.asnr.org, where members can discuss common problems, concerns, and issues;

  • recognizes clinical and scientific excellence through a variety of awards and fellowships;

  • offersparticipation and leadership opportunities through service on standing and ad-hoc committees.

ASNR Membership Benefits            back to top

  • ten issues of the American Journal of Neuroradiology (AJNR), the preeminent journal in neuroradiology;

  • access to the electronic version of AJNR at www.ajnr.org, providing an online library of of past and present journal articles;

  • ASNR E-News newsletter

  • access to the "Members Only" section of the ASNR website, providing peer networking through the online membership directory, and online continuing medical education through ASNR eCME and Neurographics. The site also includes preparation materials for the Maintenance of Certification administered through the ABR. (See below for more information on Online Educational Resources at www.asnr.org.)

  • Coding reimbursement and Centers For Medicare and Medicaid Services(CMS) information;

  • Right to vote and hold office (Senior members only);

  • Opportunity to serve on committees;

  • Membership certificate;

  • Member mailings;

  • Online Educational Resources at www.asnr.org
    • ASNR eCME features top Neuroradiology lectures on timely topics, presented in most cases as Real Media streaming audio presentations with slide-show accompaniment. Materials represent either original submissions created specifically for ASNR eCME or captured live presentations from the ASNR Annual Meetings and Neuroradiology Education and Research (NER) Foundation Symposium. Topics are grouped as follows: Advanced Imaging Techniques, Brain-General Neuroradiology, Head and Neck, Interventional, Pediatrics, Spine, and Other.

      The ASNR is accredited by the ACCME to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians. The ASNR takes responsibility for the content quality and integrity of the CME activity.

      (This site is funded through the support of the NER Foundation. Access is free for ASNR members; nonmembers may have to pay a per-lecture fee to view materials.)

    • Neurographics offers short reviews that emphasize a pictorial approach. On display are over 40 award-winning scientific exhibits presented at past ASNR Annual Meetings.

    ASNR Awards and Fellowships            back to top

    Gold Medal Award … given to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to Neuroradiology, and who have furthered, in an exceptional way, the mission of the ASNR.

    Outstanding Contributions in Research Award recognizes Neuroradiologists who demonstrate consistent excellence and lifelong accomplishment in basic or clinical neuroscience research, particularly funded research from the NIH, NSF, March of Dimes, etc.

    Cornelius G. Dyke Memorial Awardgiven to assistant professors, fellows, or residents in Neuroradiology for excellence as demonstrated in a paper, which represents original, unpublished research in some aspect of Neuroradiology. This award was established to honor one of the pioneers in Neuroradiology.

    ASNR Outstanding Presentation Awards …selected each year at the Annual Meeting by the Education Committee and representatives from the allied specialty societies from the best papers in Functional, Head and Neck, Interventional, Pediatrics, Spine, and General Neuroradiology. An additional award in General Neuroradiology is sponsored by Berlex.

    Bayer/NER Foundation Fellowship in Basic Science Researchstimulates the scientific development of promising individuals, and aids them in embarking on a career in academic neuroradiology.

    NER Foundation/Boston Scientific Fellowship in Cerebrovascular Disease Research provides an opportunity for a young neuroradiologist to pursue research in a topic that will advance the diagnosis and treatment of cerebrovascular disease.

    NER Foundation Scholar Award in Neuroradiology Researchfor young investigators in the early phase of their careers.

    NER Foundation Grant for Outcomes Research.
