Chairman's Letter |
ASNR Attendees and ELC Participants: Welcome to Seattle!
I am pleased to present to you our seventh ASNR Electronic Learning Center (ELC) and Syllabus. I hope you enjoy any Lectures or Workshops you may attend, as well as find the ELC Syllabus useful.
This year I am more than pleased to acknowledge Dr. Rick Wiggins for increasing his level of participation. He is your ELC Syllabus Editor, and will also head several lectures as well as a Workshop on making a basic web pages. Dr. Rich Berger has also expanded his role, becoming the ELC Technical Director, working closely with ASNR staff Angelo Artemakis and Carolyn Shelby ensuring that hardware and software issues sail smoothly. We also have new face this year, Dr. Char Branstetter, who joins us as a lecturer and Assistant to Dr. Wiggins in putting the Syllabus together. Last, but certainly not least, we have many ELC friends who are returning this year to present updated Lectures and Workshops; without their efforts the ELC would not be possible.
As before, some Syllabus articles were written to complement hands-on Workshops and didactic lectures being offered at the Seattle meeting, while a few others are freestanding. Those of you who attended the ELC last year may recognize repeat topics that have been updated, as well as some new topics. The contributors have done a truly excellent job, and I thank them for their dedicated efforts.
As in previous years, each article was reviewed by a Reviewing Editorial Panel, thus we can legitimately claim to have produced a quality peer-reviewed effort. All contributions went through the entire editorial process without our using paper at any step, as everything was handled digitally. Without a doubt, digital methods are truly the future of both our professional and personal lives. Finally, this will be the fifth year that the presentations themselves during the ELC will have been presented completely digitally.
Please feel free to let me know your thoughts on the ELC or the CD-ROM Syllabus. I'd be delighted to hear from you at greg.katzman@hsc.utah.edu, as we are always looking to improve the ELC, and we truly listen to your requests. This year, for the first time, all ELC speakers of the day will participate in a late afternoon "Round-Table" discussion during which all questions are welcomed and hopefully most are answered! This is in direct response to requests given to me by previous attendees. Also new this year, on the last day of the ELC, I will hold a short morning session during which anyone is welcome to give advice, or submit requests, regarding future ELC's.
Of course, we always welcome new additions to the ELC. If you would like to become an ELC participant during future ASNR Annual meetings, perhaps as a Syllabus contributor or ELC supervisor, please let us know!
Sincerely,
Greg
