Academic Sites

By far, the majority of Neuroradiology and Neuroscience related Web contributions arise from the academic centers. Nearly all the major medical centers now have websites with at least some type of radiology specific content. These vary greatly in the amount of resources dedicated to Neuroradiology and the neurosciences. At the very least, most sites contain some form of directory for contacting the department’s staff and/or faculty members. Most sites with residency and fellowship programs include information about theses programs for prospective applicants. More comprehensive sites provide educational resources that may include online teaching files, lecture or tutorial style presentations, "cases of the week" or "month", and often information about the institution's research activities.

In presenting the following collection of websites, we have attempted to include all the major academic centers. The Centers have been organized geographically by State. Brief commentary on the contents of most sites has been included and those websites felt to be of particular interest to the neuroradiologist are indicated by a “«” icon. A few additional sites with little or no “Neuro-specific” content have been included for the sake of completeness.

Radiology Organizations

What better resource could exist for the Neuroradiologist than the ASNR Website http://www.asnr.org/? Aside from providing official society information like officer, staff and committee directories, the site also contains job listings, upcoming meeting information and an educational materials section. Neuroradiology links can be found at http://www.asnr.org/etc/neuronet.shtml. Direct links to the AJNR and the following related organizations are also available from the main webpage.

Journals and Publications

The number of internet resources available within this category is increasing faster than we can find them. The following collection includes On-line media, Homepages for major Journals, Publisher Websites, and resources for purchasing medical Books and Educational Multimedia.

Educational resources

Educational resources on the Net range from simple text files to elaborate multimedia presentations. For the most part they can be grouped into three categories. Teaching files, Texts/Tutorials and Cases of the Week/Month. A number of websites offering teaching files have already been mentioned in the "Academic Sites" section above. Given the large number of educational websites available, we have chosen not provide specific comments on each site. We have provided a fairly comprehensive list below. Sites that are felt to be of outstanding merit, or at least noteworthy in the amount of Neuroradiology Content, are indicated by bold type.

Online Books/Tutorials/Lectures etc.

Online Directories/Indices

The number of Online directories and indices for Radiology resources is far too great to include a “complete” list in this syllabus. Simply typing the for “radiology” into one of the popular search engines such as Yahoo! www.yahoo.com or Excite www.excite.com will yield an astounding number of resources (e.g. using Yahoo! will get you over 360 website matches and 19 Category Matches). Many comprehensive “Links Lists” can be found within the Websites already mentioned in the Academic Sites section.

Below, we have listed a limited collection of sites that we feel may serve as particularly useful starting points for websurfing radiologists.
