Are you planning to attend the ASNR Meeting this year?
Here are the Top 8 things you should know before you decide!!

The ASNR Annual Meeting will be held May 15-20, 2010 at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, Massachusetts. We are excited to invite you to this fun, historical city! Neuroradiology Fellows can attend at a reduced rate, but some complain that the breadth of the meeting is a little daunting at first. Here are a few important tips to help you get the most out of the ASNR 48th Annual Meeting.

  1. The ASNR is always preceded by a weekend NER Foundation Symposium -- a day and a half of focused lectures before the Annual Meeting! This year's topic is Cancer Imaging for the Neuroradiologist.
  2. The ASNR formally commences on Monday morning. There are multiple subspecialties within the ASNR and these are presented over several days. For example: General Neuroradiology and Head & Neck sessions are held all week from Monday through Thursday; Pediatric sessions are held on the Monday and Tuesday; Functional imaging, Interventional, and Spine topics are presented on Wednesday and Thursday. These focus areas are color-coded in the program book to provide an easy and quick reference.
  3. Choose a topic of interest (such as Head & Neck), then follow the didactic lectures, paper presentation sessions and posters. It is often better to aim for the whole of one area than small portions of everything.
  4. Note high-yield learning areas:
    1. Case-based review sessions
    2. b. Self-Assessment Modules (SAMs) and Maintenance of Certification (MOC) review sessions -- these review sessions are part of the MOC required by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) for practicing radiologists, and are also especially helpful in preparing for the CAQ exam.
  5. When you've been to too many paper sessions or lectures to see straight, browse the poster and computer-based education exhibits. The poster exhibit area is a great place to wander, see what's going on in other places, and meet other attendees!
  6. Learn more about the business of radiology, politics of medicine, and computer applications in radiology by attending the Synaptic Junction. These courses are spread across the week, and are designed to help you when you leave your training and enter the radiology workforce.
  7. Join the leaders of our society for a Fellows' Luncheon on on Tuesday, May 18. . This is an excellent opportunity to schmooze with leaders in our field including the men and women of the ASNR Executive Committee! It is also a great opportunity to meet your fellow colleagues from other institutions to share ideas and discuss interesting topics.
  8. NEW this year!! There will be a break room dedicated to the fellows during the meeting. This will provide an opportunity for networking with your peers and the Executive Committee of the ASNR. An information bulletin will contain recommendations of presentations for you to attend each day. Interesting unknown cases will be posted for you to challenge yourselves! Refreshments will be provided.

*Don't forget to visit the ASNR Fellows' Portal (www.asnr.org/fellows/) to find links to subspecialty websites (pediatric neuro, spine, head and neck, functional neuroradiology, and interventional neuoradiology) and FREE access to computer education exhibits from past ASNR meetings on the Neurographics site (www.neurographics.org/).
