NER Foundation Symposium 2008: Emergency Neuroradiology
May 31 - June 1, 2008

The program is designed for practicing neuroradiologists who perform and interpret imaging studies in patients with acute neurologic and head and neck emergencies. The course will provide the attendees with a review of imaging findings in these disorders using routine and state of the art techniques. The imaging presentations will be augmented with presentations from clinicians who deal with these emergent processes including neurosurgeons, neurologists, ENT and spine surgeons. The program will conclude with a round table discussion of means to provide high quality neuroradiology coverage “24/7” in a variety of practice circumstances with topics including: a) use of in-house or outside nighthawk services; b) means to perform complex image manipulations (e.g. angiographic studies and parametric perfusion maps) and c) what our clinical colleagues need most from us.

Session topics include:

  • Developing an Emergency Neuroradiology Service
  • Dose reduction in pediatric patients undergoing emergent CT scans
  • Post-processing of imaging studies including spine and cervical cerebral vessels from "whole body" CT, CTA/CTP and MRA/MRP
  • Imaging of head and neck emergencies in children and adults
  • Imaging of unstable spine injuries
  • Imaging and future therapeutic advances of spinal cord injury
  • Use of multi-modal CT and MR in the diagnosis of acute infarction and subarachnoid hemorrhage
  • Imaging of head trauma with emphasis on emerging treatment options
  • One (1) Proposed Self Assessment Module (SAM) Session on Brain Vascular Diseases   *Note: Programming is currently under review for qualification as a Self Assessment Module (SAM) through the American Board of Radiology (ABR).
